Claremont McKenna College Hires New Assistant Dean Of Students For Academic Success

In an email to Claremont McKenna College (CMC) students this afternoon, Senior Associate Dean of Students Susan Layden announced that CMC hired Matthew Layman as its new Assistant Dean of Students (ADS) for Academic Success.

According to the email, the position has been empty since shortly before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, the former ADS for Academic Success, Sean Rollolazo, took on a new role as the ADS for Health and Well-Being.

The new ADS for Academic Success, Layman, was formerly an assistant coach for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team. At CMC, Layman also assisted the Presidential Initiative on Antiracism and the Black Experience in America.

Layman previously worked at Purdue University as the director of player development. Before that he worked as an assistant coach at Heidelberg University for two seasons and served as an interim head coach during the spring of 2013.

Layman holds a BS in athletic training from Manchester University and an MA in Education from Heidelberg University and recently completed facilitator training for Intergroup Dialogue at the University of Michigan.
