CMC Parties No Longer Open to All Claremont College Students

This afternoon, the ASCMC student body president announced that parties will only be open to CMC students or will be CMC plus one “for the foreseeable future.”

It is unclear who will ultimately decide between these two options, but neither was approved by the ASCMC Senate or Executive Board. In the past, most large-scale ASCMC events were open to students from all five Claremont Colleges.

The announcement followed the Dean of Students Office’s decision to shut down last Saturday’s Monte Carlo event approximately one hour earlier than scheduled. According to the announcement, this was due to “a significant number of medical incidents,” aggression towards staff, uninvited guests, indoor smoking, theft, and general disregard for campus facilities. The student body president claimed that the party “turned into a free-for-all that wrecked [the night] for a lot of people.”

In the aftermath of the event, rumors were floated that more than ten students were transported to the hospital. An anonymous source alleges that only three students were transported: one CMC student, one student from another 5C, and one individual who does not attend the Claremont Colleges. This report has not yet been confirmed.

The Director of News and Media Relations at CMC, Gilien Silsby, did not respond to a request for comment.

This is a developing story: more updates will come.
